Charlotte Perriand’s influence on modern design is undeniable. Known for her radical simplicity and deep respect for natural materials, she transformed everyday furniture into quiet statements of beauty and utility. At TreeHause, we find her work endlessly inspiring—especially her reinterpretation of the traditional alpine milking stool, a form she returned to throughout her career.

Two of our favorite pieces—the Meribel Stool and the Berger Stool—are our own tributes to that legacy.

A Modern Nod to the Mountains: The Meribel Stool

The Meribel Stool takes its name from the French ski village where Perriand spent years designing warm, modern interiors that felt rooted in the alpine landscape. We wanted this piece to feel like it could have come from one of those chalets: solid, minimal, and sculptural. Crafted from reclaimed teak, the Meribel has a thick, carved seat and three stout legs, giving it a grounded presence and a touch of rustic elegance. It works beautifully as a stool, side table, or even a small pedestal for a favorite object.

Rustic Refinement: The Berger Stool

The Berger Stool (meaning "shepherd" in French) is our softer take on the same classic milking stool shape. With its hand-turned legs and gently concave seat, it's slightly more refined but just as humble. We love it as a plant stand, a quiet accent beside the bed, or extra seating that tucks away effortlessly. Like the Meribel, it’s made from solid reclaimed teak—no veneers, no shortcuts.

More Than a Reproduction: A Design Philosophy Continued

These stools aren’t replicas. They’re our way of engaging with a design philosophy that feels more relevant than ever: one that values sustainability, simplicity, and soul. Perriand once said that "better design helps us live better lives," and we take that to heart. Each stool is made in small batches by artisans we’ve worked with for years—people who understand the beauty of a well-formed joint and the patience of hand-finishing wood.

In a world of fast furniture, these stools invite you to slow down. To notice. To sit.
